About

Dear reader,

Hello! And welcome to mylatrobecinemastudies. My name is Adam Young. As I write this I am a first year arts student at La Trobe University’s Bundoora campus in Melbourne, Australia. My major will be in Cinema Studies. Therefore, the focus of this blog will be film. All this, then, is enough to explain how this blog came to be… Well, not really. It isn’t enough just to present some basic facts and then to move on. So, for starters, what’s in a name?

Well, ‘mylatrobecinemastudies situates me; it’s personal, it’s rooted in the place (and certain people associated with it) where my life-changing tools for cinema have been acquired, and it states my discipline.

Amongst this, place is particularly important. Should I happen to switch universities one day, I would not forget La Trobe. It is where the catalysts for this blog are. Had I not enrolled in CST1IFA for the first semester of 2012, and had I not enrolled in my particular Tuesday 1 PM tutorial, then this blog may not have been.

From late February to early June I was part of something exceptional. Associate Lecturer, Anna Dzenis, was my lecturer, and Masters candidate, Craig Martin, was my tutor. I could not have wished for more dedicated, more supportive, more thought provoking, or a more approachable pair to go through the subject with.

Yet, despite the genesis of this blog being personal, my writing will mostly be focused on perhaps the strictest genre in writing, that being academic writing.

So, if you have read or are reading my blog, I thank you for taking the time to do so, and I hope you enjoy, and perhaps even comment on the posts that I present to you.

Cheers,

Adam.
